My name in the real world is Chris Kay, I'm a professional level designer who comes from a strong background in multi player first person shooters. Here comes the history, so grab a stool and sit comfy.

Back in 1998 I installed Unreal on my parents PC. Curiosity got the better of me and I browsed through the folder structure, little knowing that finding UnrealEditor would shape my future in such a big way. Slowly and surely I figured out the basics of level construction. Unreal Tournament was released shortly after so I took my knowledge of the tool and started creating my own levels. It's the excitement of new challenges that has kept me interested in game and level design all these years on.

The core of my level design experience came from Counter-Strike, a popular team based multiplayer shooter. After getting completely addicted to the game in my teens I started learning Worldcraft with the goal of making my first publicly released level. Sure enough, a year later my first level was finished and it went down well, the buzz I got playing my level with others remains with me today, it's truly rewarding.

Moving on a number of years Half-life 2 was released and I joined modification teams, I wanted to get more involved in the games concept and development, I suppose it's natural to want more from the work you do. Insurgency a modern infantry combat game set around the period of the Iraqi Liberation appealed to me and after 3 years of development we released a public beta which remains one of the top modifications for Half-Life 2, it won Modification of the year award over at the popular web site Moddb and has had extensive media coverage. Magazines, television shows, radio interviews and features at IGN, Gamespot and AMD Game to name a few. Insurgency continues to expand with patches and updates planned well into the future.

The work on Modifications along with some custom maps for retail games landed me a job at a well respected local game studio. I now work for Crytek located in Frankfurt Germany and have just recently shipped Crysis 2 for PS3, Xbox and PC. Level design has been a true passion of mine for over a decade, it's rewarding and in such a fast moving industry new challenges keep me on the ball.
